I was born January 29, 1959 to Bill and Betty in Newaygo MI. I had an older sister Janet, (deceased) and would have had an older brother Billy, however he died from pneumonia when he was 18 months old. We attended church, my dad worked, and was a world war 2 army veteran, while my mom stayed home to tend the home fires. She worked for the former Zondervan Co. after she graduated high school, and even met Billy Graham before he became a famous evangelist. My parents married after my dad came home from the war, and he met my mom in church. They were active and did many things, bus driver, Sunday school teacher, etc. But it was only years later after I found out about having an older brother that I could sense that there was deep seated guilt in them concerning his death. It had never been treated, talked out or healed. There was tension and my parents always were concerned about me and my sister not being home on time. or notifying them about our whereabouts, even into adulthood. Even after Janet and I got married, my parents would worry about us, and call on a daily basis to check on us, to make sure we were ok. Mind you, I loved my parents dearly, and miss them to this day. However I knew they were born again Christians, but were never taught Biblical principles on how to deal with stress, worry and fear. If they would have, I’m sure it would have helped. Or even see a Christian discipler or counselor. Bible states in regard to worry: Isaiah 41:10-So do not fear, for I am with you, I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you. Deuteronomy 31:8-The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of peace. We are to rest in Him knowing that He will protect and lead us no matter what. Please let me know what your thoughts are in regard to this topic.
